Description

People Who Help Us PowerPoint – KS1 & P1–P2

Introduce young children to the important people who help us at home, at school and in our local community with this colourful and engaging People Who Help Us PowerPoint lesson.

Designed for KS1 and P1–P2, this child-friendly resource helps pupils recognise familiar community helpers, understand the jobs they do and talk about the different ways people help to keep us safe, healthy and cared for.

The lesson introduces children to a range of familiar people who help us, including teachers, doctors and nurses, police officers, firefighters and paramedics. Children also explore the many people who help them during the school day, including classroom assistants, the principal or headteacher, school secretaries, cooks and caretakers.

The PowerPoint then looks beyond school to the wider community, introducing postal workers, bus drivers, shop workers and refuse and recycling collectors and encouraging children to think of other people who help where they live.

Throughout the lesson, simple Talk About It questions encourage speaking, listening and classroom discussion. Children are invited to relate the topic to their own experiences and think about the people who help them in everyday life.

The lesson also includes a fun Who Am I? activity in which pupils use clues to identify different community helpers, followed by a challenge to create their own clue. This provides an enjoyable opportunity to recap and reinforce learning.
